In the frame of the DAAD and BMZ sponsored project HEdIS, the 1st HEdIS Summer School “IoT for Sustainable Citizens” took place from 22nd to 30th November 2017. Artombo was also present at the 1st HEdIS Summer School.  Artombo is a cultural project which offers art workshops for children and young people from communities surrounding Port Elizabeth. The HEdIS workshop started with presentations on sustainability research projects at the Oldenburg University. This was followed by workshop sessions where participants chose and took part one of three round table discussions, which focused on the three main themes of the workshop as well as the upcoming summer school: water management, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility.   On 21st March 2017, Dr. Brenda Scholtz (Head of Deparment Computing Sciences at Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Port Elizabeth, South Africa) gave a guest lecture about international university collaboration and academic writing.
