The HEdIS Summer School 2021
The HEdIS summer school was held from November 02 to November 12, 2021. In the first week, a workshop on academic writing, led by Dr Layla Cassim, was held as an online event. This workshop covered all topics, from brainstorming to literature review and writing techniques and the structure of academic papers.
The second week of the summer school was held as a face-to-face event. After Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jorge Marx Gomez welcomed the attendees, Dr Eva Thamm introduced the DAAD and informed about the different funding programs. In the afternoon, under direction of Anne-Mart Olsen, the 2nd workshop started. The participants, which were splitted into three groups and guided by the professors Jorge Marx Gomez, Prof. Brenda Scholtz and Prof. Wallace Chigona, had to develop three modules. This process took place throughout the week, with the modules and their contents becoming more concrete from day to day. During the process, the groups were able to give each other feedback on the modules, so that further perspectives could be incorporated into the module development, resulting in three modules that were handed over to the universities.
In addition to the workshops, recreational activities also took place. For example, we were able to climb Table Mountain, visit the Cape of Good Hope, and explore Cape Town. Due to the proximity to the beach and the good relationship among the participants, there was a lively exchange.
